On Green Grass

When I was a girl
Sitting on green grass
Writing our names
...in my mind
We were always together.

Years passed
Like a slow dance
A spot light on two
Unaware of what lay
....beneath each note

Intertwined memories
Decorate each branch
Shading the place I sit
Where time passes...
....begging for room

My unyielding smile
...and gentle hand waves
Over empty spaces
Implying no vacancy

For this space
...on green grass
Is mine for slow dances
Where I'm frozen in time.

Sounds of a Muse

If ever you heard the sounds
The ones playing today
You would be jealous of my ears

Cold beaches and rain soaked sand
Waves washed over idle rocks --
Singing songs I haven't heard in years

Water is my muse
The sound is her twin
Bringing life to what was barely alive

Journey in Life

Guide me through the low-light
Through the portals closing in
Fingertips leading through this labyrinth
Assurance through this maze is bliss

Show me that.....

There is saving grace...
where in blackness we've fallen

And that there is ...

No shame in skinned knees
and dirty faced tears

Bring me to light at the end of this tunnel
Shade my eyes when it's too bright to see
Strum softly beneath billowed blooms
Bed me soft in fields made

.....for the end of this journey

The Whole Thing

Lowly grasslands filter muddied water
Hearts of steel rusted there...
Stomping through meadows meant for spring
Flowerbeds stunted by winter-snow.
Darkened valleys not meant for wandering
Is where the lonely wait.

Not used to a loss for words
Searching through billowy clouds
For more metaphors to explain the grief
Our wounded hearts gush openly
Dragged through valleys, meadows, and muddied water
Destiny and fate laughing boldly, without fear at our expense.

I want to scream at your heart
Blame you for not trying
Tell you how much blood you've drawn
Let you drown in the silted mire.
Watch you taste your hate.
And feed you the angst you despise

Opposite those wants
Is the softer side - the savior side
My heart also weakened at the sound of you
Edges of my spirit have reached capacity
Blushing at places I never should have gone
Crossed connections move blindly

Savor what is in front of you
Wade gingerly through the meadow
Seasons change the landscape
Scars will show where wounds once bled
Love will replace the hateful taste of the present
And your despair will turn to hope
